I recently purchased Nicola Tarallo's Mangia Tiella!, and read through the entire cookbook before deciding on my first tiella attempt. After much thought, I decided on the Asparagus Tiella. The recipe was very easy to follow and the result was really delicious!
As a creative and improvisational cook, I realized very quickly that I could easily make this dish my own. Mangia Tiella! is a wonderful reference for the basic, traditional types of tiella found in its Gaeta, Italy birthplace, but past that the sky is the limit! Make a traditional tiella, or use your imagination when dreaming up your perfect tiella filling! Just as the fishermen's wives - so long ago in Gaeta - had to figure out a way to prepare a portable meal using available ingredients, today one only needs to look around in the refrigerator or cupboard to gather ingredients for a delicious tiella fish, meats, mushrooms, vegetables, eggs, cheeses...anything goes!
You must buy and try. Its the best. I hope everyone trys this fine book. Thank you Nicola for offerring this!
I grew up eating this delicacy. I was born in Gaeta and grew up with my mom making this quite often. After seeing this book on , decided it was time to start up the tradition. Great book, clear concise directions.
My grandparents were from Gaeta and my mother has been looking for a tiella recipe for so long! I'm so excited about this book and the fact that Nicola has written so much about Gaeta. The town is so rich with culture. Thanks Nicola for writing all the books. I'm looking forward to making the tiellas. Hope this book and others can be published in paperback for those that don't have an e-reader!
